Audre Lorde

“I loved words. I used to lie awake at night when I was a child and say words and have them, I used to picture them as waterfalls of light and I would say them until the words would literally fracture. I saw things very strange because I was so nearsighted, I was almost blind and light always broke down into it’s components without my glasses. If I would look at a flame or- or an electric light, it would break into these wonderful colors. Well sometimes at night I would lie in bed and I would say these words and I would imagine them as pieces of light fracturing. That the word would fracture into its many different sounds and parts and I would play these games inside my head with words.”
